Is Claude free to use?
Yes. Anthropic offers a free Claude account with a daily message allowance that resets, which is fine for occasional use but runs out quickly on long documents or code. Paid plans start at $20 a month for Pro, with Max tiers at $100 and $200 a month buying roughly five and twenty times Pro’s usage.
What is Claude best at?
Claude’s strongest areas are long-form writing, editing in a specific voice, reasoning over large documents and software engineering. It holds instructions and tone across long conversations better than most rivals, and its agentic coding tool, Claude Code, can explore a repository, make changes and run tests with relatively little supervision along the way.
Can Claude generate images?
No. As of August 2026 Claude cannot create images, video or audio. It can read and analyse images, charts, screenshots and PDFs that you upload, and it can write code that draws graphics, but there is no built-in image generator. If you need image or video generation, ChatGPT and Gemini both cover that.
Does Anthropic use your Claude conversations to train its models?
On consumer Free, Pro and Max accounts it does by default, and you have to opt out in privacy settings; data kept for training is retained for up to five years. Commercial API, Team and Enterprise usage is excluded by default. Conversations flagged for safety review may still be used regardless of your setting.
What is Claude Code?
Claude Code is Anthropic’s agentic coding tool. It runs in your terminal, reads your project files, edits code, runs tests and commits changes, working through multi-step tasks rather than only answering questions. It is included with Pro and Max subscriptions at usage limits matching the tier, and is also available through the API.
Does Claude have a mobile app?
Yes. Anthropic publishes official Claude apps for iOS and Android, plus desktop apps for macOS and Windows, all syncing with claude.ai through one account. The mobile apps support voice input, file and photo uploads, and projects. Feature parity with the web app is good, though some developer-oriented tools are desktop or terminal only.
Should you use Claude or ChatGPT?
Choose Claude if most of your work is writing, editing, document analysis or coding, and you value output that needs less rewriting. Choose ChatGPT if you want one tool that also handles image generation, voice conversation and a broad app ecosystem. Plenty of people who use both keep Claude for drafting and ChatGPT for everything else.
